Help Wanted: One Researcher for Every Library in the United States

A couple of days ago, this post from Juli showed up in my Facebook feed. She needs a quick obituary search at a library in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and she’s been having a tough time finding someone she can count on to come through for her.

It shouldn’t be that hard to find research help!

The post caught my eye because it’s a perfect example of why Dean and I created Genlighten.com. We want people like Juli to be able to come to Genlighten, type in “pottsville,” pull up the library page, and click through to send a project proposal to someone who can visit to do research.

But if that’s going to happen, then we need you. We’ve created a website that can make the process of finding research help quick and easy but it can only make it quick and easy if researchers add their names to the database.

If you search for your local library on the site and you get results like the page below, consider it to be a help wanted ad aimed at you. : )

All it takes is 5 minutes and a few clicks of your mouse to sign up for Genlighten, add the provider tools to your account, attach your profile page to your local library page so people can find you when they need you.

Will you be swamped with requests for research help at your local library? Probably not.

Will you make lots of money when someone contacts you for help? Doubt it.

Will you be there when someone like Juli needs you? Yes. And that’s worth a lot.

And, will someone be there for you when you need them? We hope so.

So, what are you waiting for? Sign up today. And then, please pass the word along to others so they can sign up, too.

Together, we can do this!
