I can obtain copies of Minnesota obituaries and death notices from the Minnesota Historical Society’s extensive newspaper collection. Availability will depend on a lot of factors—whether MHS has newspapers for the particular city or area, whether its holdings cover the specific time period, or whether an obituary or death notice was even printed.
To see if the MHS holds a particular newspaper or has newspapers for a particular city or area, check the MHS Library Catalog (http://mnhs.mnpals.net) before you place an order. (Click where it says “MHS Catalog Options” and select “Newspapers.”)
Since I get to the Minnesota History Center nearly every Saturday (sometimes more often), turnaround time may be up to one week.
Because of the time involved in finding obituaries, particularly when there are several newspapers covering a city or area to check, this fee is non-refundable. However, if I’m unable to find an obituary based on the information you provide, I will let you know which newspapers I searched and on what dates.
