About Me

In addition to accepting clients directly or as an independent contractor for research firms, Michael W. McCormick recently served six years as an executive and genealogist for a forensic genealogy firm processing well over one hundred cases each year. Michael earned a master's degree in genealogy from the University of Strathclyde, interned with the largest genealogy non-profit (FamilySearch), and is on the Remote Adjunct Faculty for BYU-Idaho's associate's degree in Family History Research. Michael has been awarded the Accredited Genealogist (AG) credential, with the International Commission for Accredited Genealogists. He is known as a specialist in locating next-of-kin when almost no information is known, determining the town of origin for German immigrants, and solving many kinds of difficult cases (including research in various countries, languages, and time periods).

Research Services

Services offered include traditional genealogy research, research reports and problem analysis, research plans, consultations, locating next-of-kin or living persons, and record retrieval (such as at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City). Clients have included individuals, genealogical firms, attorneys, heir hunters, and fiduciaries.

    $200.00/record

    Description

    $200/plan
An ideal service for a new client who wants to start with a plan, or a genealogy hobbyist who wishes to do the research herself or himself, but feels stuck. Using expertise in research methodology as well as knowledge of obscure record types, a research plan will be provided customized directly to your ancestral problem. It will list suggested steps and specific source-cited collections to consider for research. The client can then either do the research himself or herself, or hire us to do the research. The fee covers up to 2-3 hours of analyzing your known information and sources you have collected, as well as writing up a formal plan.

    Ordering Instructions

The client must provide an objective (e.g. find the parents, or learn more about the individual's life). The client must also provide access to or copies of all their known data (e.g. names, relationships, dates, and locations) for the ancestor who will be the focus of the plan. Copies of any source documents they have must also be provided. Expected processing time is 1 month.

Inquire about same-day or next-day turn around time for specific look-up requests. This can only be offered to selected clients, based on greatest need.

10-hour minimum project size for all new clients, unless research only requires a simple look-up.

Expectations must be clarified, and agreed to, in writing before research begins.
