Center for Research Libraries in Chicago
$35.00/record
Description
The Center for Research Libraries, CRL for short, holds many ethnic newspapers on microfilm for viewing and copies. They have newspapers for not only Chicago, but across the entire country. The CRL is located on the south side of the UC campus, in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.
You can search the CRL's catalog at the following URL: http://catalog.crl.edu/search~S1
Research patrons are allowed viewing of 12 microfilm in a single visit, which must be ordered ahead of time along with a reservation for research. They are open Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm. All research patrons, who are not members of the CRL, are required to pay a $25 entry fee. The fee structuring for this offering includes the $25 entry fee and research is conducted at $35/hour, not $35/record. Digital scans and printed copies are $0.10 each.
One specific publication of note is the Dziennik Związkowy, a Chicago Polish newspaper which began in 1908 and is still published today under Polish Daily News. Many obituaries and death notices were published in this newspaper and an index covering 1930-1949 has been created via James Czuchra: http://polfamily.info/dziennik-zwiazkowy-search
You can find the catalog title for Dziennik Związkowy here: http://catalog.crl.edu/record=b1336327~S1
Another useful publication is the Denní hlasatel, a Bohemian/Czech newspaper from Chicago, whose printing began in 1891 and is available on microfilm through 1994. You can find the catalog title for Denní hlasatel here: http://catalog.crl.edu/record=b1179816~S1
Ordering Instructions
Please be specific about which publication title you would like reviewed, including the call numbers (I can help you locate them). Please also include what information you are seeking from the publications. For example: an obituary search would require the deceased's name and dates of death and burial. I ask for both the date of death and burial, because there are chance occasions where multiple notices were published for an individual; a short notice the day of or after passing, with a more complete obituary the following days, can be common.

Chicago & Cook County Naturalization Papers
$10.00/record
Description
Naturalization papers, including the Declaration of Intention and the Petition for Naturalization, are often an essential document in determining when an immigrant ancestor arrived and where they were originally from. Because of this, they are an important set of records that all genealogists much obtain while researching their immigrant ancestors.
The records available for the Superior, Circuit, County and Criminal Courts of Cook County, range from 1871-1929. An index to this material can be located at FamilySearch within this collection, entitled "Illinois, Northern District Naturalization Index, 1840-1950": https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1838804
Ordering Instructions
Please provide the name of the immigrant, their date of birth and the date of their arrival.
If possible, please provide the URL to the index card, if you can locate it on FamilySearch.
Any vital records requested, upon acceptance, will be delivered in approximately one business day.
All other research depends on each project's unique request. Please be clear and detailed in your requests, providing any information already known that will assist with the project.
